PASADENA, CA —December 13, 2006— VIASPACE Inc. (OTCBB: VSPC), a company dedicated to commercializing proven technologies from NASA and the US Department of Defense, announced today that Mr. Gary Miller has been promoted to Vice President for Business Development for its Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Corporation (DMFCC) subsidiary.
Mr. Miller has been serving as DMFCC Vice President Japan Business Development. He came to DMFCC from Aurora Labs Inc., where he was Vice President of Product Planning. Mr. Miller has held previous business development consulting positions at Motorola and Proview International, as well as business management positions at Universal Electronics Inc., DataPlay Inc. and Tokai Bussan Corporation.
Mr. Miller earned his BA in Economics from the University of California at Irvine, and his MBA from the University of Colorado.
Dr. Carl Kukkonen, CEO of both VIASPACE and DMFCC, said, “We anticipate that the promotion of Mr. Miller as head of all of DMFCC’s business development activities will help us immensely in the methanol fuel cell cartridge business. He has extensive experience and contacts with major electronic OEMs throughout the world, but especially in Asia.”
DMFCC focuses on producing and distributing methanol fuel cartridges designed to provide the energy source for laptop computers, cell phones and other portable electronic devices to be powered by direct methanol fuel cells.
Fuel cells are expected to gain a substantial market share because they offer longer operating time as compared to current lithium ion batteries and may be instantaneously recharged by simply replacing the disposable fuel cartridge. Leading OEMs have announced that they are developing direct methanol fuel cells for portable electronic applications.
