Wright (212) 326-6170 April 28, 2000 00/18 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DIME BANCORP, INC. INCREASES CASH DIVIDEND New York, NY -- April 28, 2000 -- Dime Bancorp, Inc. (NYSE:DME) announced today that its Board of Directors has declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.08 per share, representing a 33% increase over last quarter's dividend of $0.06 per share. The dividend will be paid on June 1, 2000 to stockholders of record as of the close of business on May 19, 2000. Lawrence J. Toal, Dime's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said "The recently completed first quarter was our fifteenth consecutive quarter of higher operating earnings--a record that began in the third quarter of 1996. Recognizing Dime's strong performance, the Board of Directors has determined that it is appropriate to increase our cash dividend to stockholders. This represents our third increase since 1997."
