This means that nearly all of a REIT's income can be distributed to shareholders, and double taxation of the income is eliminated. 4. What's the likelihood of getting a favorable ruling by the IRS? The tax issues presented by the transaction are complex, and there is no assurance that a favorable tax ruling can be obtained. 5. What will happen to employees of The Timber Company?
