The common stock of Whitehall Jewellers, Inc. (the "Company") was suspended from trading on the New York Stock Exchange (the "NYSE") prior to the opening of trading on Friday, October 28, 2005. As previously announced, the decision was reached in view of the fact that the Company was not in compliance with the NYSE continued listing standards because its average market capitalization had been less than $25 million over a consecutive 30 trading-day period. Beginning on October 28, 2005, the Company's common stock will be quoted in the Pink Sheets under the symbol "jwlr". The Company may also seek quotation of its common stock on the OTC Bulletin Board.
