              IN BEAR STEARNS 2001 HEALTHCARE 'VIRTUAL' CONFERENCE

BRENTWOOD, Tennessee (September 24, 2001) - LifePoint Hospitals, Inc.
(Nasdaq/NM: LPNT) today announced that it will participate in the Bear Stearns
2001 Healthcare "Virtual" Conference on Tuesday, September 25, 2001, at 2:00
p.m. Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

         Kenneth C. Donahey, chairman and chief executive of LifePoint
Hospitals, along with other members of LifePoint's senior management team, will
give a presentation on the Company, followed by a question and answer session.
