          QWEST COMMUNICATIONS APPOINTS KPMG LLP AS INDEPENDENT AUDITOR


DENVER, May 30, 2002 -- Qwest Communications International Inc. (NYSE: Q) today
announced that its Board of Directors has retained KPMG LLP to serve as Qwest's
independent auditor for 2002. The board said it decided not to re-engage Arthur
Andersen LLP as Qwest's independent auditor.

Qwest has filed a Current Report on Form 8-K with the Securities and Exchange
Commission relating to the change of its auditor.
