On February 7, 2006, FirstMerit Corporation (the “Company”) announced a revision to its previously announced earnings for the fiscal quarter and year ended December 31, 2005 due to an increased loan loss provision expense recorded in the fourth quarter of 2005. The increase was related to additional information received by the Company on a single commercial credit in the Company’s C & I sector, not related to the automotive industry. A copy of the press release and certain financial information for this period is attached as Exhibit 99.1 hereto and incorporated by reference herein.
