Marketable Securities The fair values of the Company’s marketable securities are determined in accordance with GAAP, with fair value being defined as the amount that would be received to sell an asset or paid to transfer a liability in an orderly transaction between market participants. As such, fair value is a market-based measurement that should be determined based on assumptions that market participants would use in pricing an asset or liability. Investment income consisted principally of realized gains and losses, interest income from fixed income mutual funds and dividend income from equity and other mutual funds. Marketable securities include investments in fixed income and equity mutual funds, which are classified as “available-for-sale” securities and are reported at their fair values. Unrealized gains and losses on “available-for-sale” securities are reported as accumulated other comprehensive income in stockholders’ equity, net of the related tax effects. Investment income is recognized when earned. Realized gains and losses on the sales of investments are determined on a specific identification basis. |
