Merger Will Expand Independence Assets and Franchise
Our merger with Staten Island Bancorp (SIB) will significantly expand the Independence franchise in the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area. When it becomes effective in a few months, after shareholder and regulatory approvals, the transaction will transform Independence into one of the region’s strongest mid-size banks with $17 billion in assets and 116 branches. The new Independence will have a dominant presence in Brooklyn and Staten Island and a dramatically expanded footprint in New Jersey, where we will have 51 branches. We are excited about the benefits this merger will bring to our clients and the communities we serve as it provides valuable new resources to expand our commercial and multi-family mortgage lending businesses.
