On January 7, 2005, Energy East Corporation issued a news release announcing its Board of Directors elected John T. Cardis and Seth A. Kaplan as directors. In addition, the Board of Directors determined both Mr. Cardis and Mr. Kaplan meet the independence criteria of the New York Stock Exchange.
Deloitte Touche, the accounting firm Mr. Cardis retired from in 2004, periodically provides tax and other non-audit consulting services to Energy East.
