EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Registrant is filing this Amendment No. 1 to Current Report on Form 8-K/A dated January 19, 2007 to (i) disclose correctly in the Form 8-K the date of the issuance of the press release as January 19, 2007 and (ii) attach the correct copy of the press release that discloses the payable date of the cash dividend as February 15, 2007.

On January 19, 2007, Eastern Virginia Bankshares, Inc. issued a news release announcing its financial results for the quarter and year ended December 31, 2006. A copy of the press release is being furnished as an exhibit to this report and is incorporated by reference into this Item 2.02.
