SCHOOL SPECIALTY REPORTS UNEXPECTED DEATH OF A DIRECTOR
Greenville, WI, June 20, 2005--School Specialty (NASDAQ:SCHS),is saddened to report the unexpected death of its long-time board member, Jerome Pool. The directors and associates of School Specialty extend their deepest sympathy to Mr. Pool's family and friends.
Jerry died yesterday of a heart attack at the age of 69. Jerry joined our Board about six years ago. He was a friend and mentor to Dan Spalding, former CEO of School Specialty. Dan worked for Jerry for a few years when they were both with Janzten, Inc., now a division of VF Corporation. Jerry brought the Board a perspective from an operator's viewpoint, having been in business himself for his entire working life.
"We will all miss Jerry's easy manner and elegant style," said Dave Vander Zanden, President and Chief Executive Officer of School Specialty. "Jerry was a gentle man with a good sense of humor. I enjoyed working with him very much and will miss him greatly."
