Carlson’s Corner – CEO Blog for Friday, July 13
Subject: Thank you
It’s been a whirlwind of a week sinceMonday’s announcement. As I have had the opportunity to interact with more of you, I have seen the reactions grow from a degree of surprise into curiosity and ultimately a growing excitement, as together we embrace the future ahead of us.
We had the opportunity to witness this excitement on Tuesday when WellPoint CEO Angela Braly came to town. Your passion was on display. Even the rain couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm as we walked around our facilities here in Virginia Beach, getting the chance to offer a quick hello to so many of you. We wished we could have had the ability to cover additional locations and speak with even more colleagues, and I know that we will, but what we heard and experienced was consistent. That energy and excitement that comes from change, you could feel it. It was day two, and people were already thinking of the opportunities we might have to do more for the people we serve.
The main reason I am writing is because I want to thank you. Amerigroup was attractive to WellPoint because of what you have built, and that is a credit to our people and your commitment. There are natural emotions that come with change, but really it’s an essential component to moving forward, moving ahead and, quite simply, growing. Amerigroup will grow significantly as an organization, and we will all grow as individuals. It is about being proactive and taking the necessary steps to ensure our future success. That kind of change is progress. Amid an ever-evolving health care landscape, Amerigroup remains at the forefront, thanks to your dedicated efforts – not only over recent years, but for the future as well.
Reflecting on just the first week, this announcement has provided me with a number of forums – both inside and outside of our Company – to make the point of how proud I am of what we have built and the work that we do. This is the next chapter in the history we are making, together. We will have many opportunities in the future to talk more about this, and I am personally looking forward to meeting with even more of you as I travel to the health plans.
Amerigroup is headed for the size and scope that we have never seen, reaching more states, members and providers, and making a greater difference than ever. Now that’s cause for some real excitement.
Jim
