The following communication was circulated by Paul Cormier to the associates of Red Hat, Inc.:
Since the Halloween release of Red Hat Linux on Oct. 31, 1994, you have shown our customers, competitors and the world that open source is the best software development model. Starting with the launch of our first enterprise offering, Red Hat Linux Advanced Server in 2002, we’ve shown that the subscription model delivers the value and services required to power the most complex and largest infrastructures on the globe.
Today’s news that IBM has agreed to acquire all Red Hat outstanding shares in a deal where we would become an independent unit within IBM validates your decades of leadership in the community, dedication to the needs of our customers, focus on partner ecosystems, and commitment to building the industry’s broadest, highest quality, and most successful open source portfolio.
Even with this change, our mission remains unaltered and is now more important than ever. Our three pillars of hybrid cloud infrastructure, cloud-native application development, and management and automation are at the core of why IBM is making the largest acquisition of any software company to date. IBM recognizes the value of our independence and ability to change the future of IT and realizes that our culture and openness are key ingredients in our combined success and are committed to maintaining what makes us Red Hat.
In the coming months and until the transaction closes, we will continue to operate as a separate entity, business as usual. Our internal processes and external relationships with customers and partners will remain, and our planning for the coming quarters and years will proceed as normal.
I know you may have questions and we are committed to continued communications with you as appropriate throughout the process. Please review the public announcement, email from Jim as well as this FAQ.

We will talk more about this at our all hands tomorrow
