SECTION 8 - Other Events.
Item 8.01 Other Events.
On September 18, 2006, Progress Energy, Inc. (the “Company”), through its subsidiaries and affiliates, resumed limited production of synthetic fuel at various previously idled synthetic fuel facilities. The Company’s decision to move some of its facilities back into limited production is based on significantly reduced oil prices combined with current favorable fuel price projections. The Company will continue to monitor the economic environment surrounding synthetic fuel production and plans to adjust production as it deems appropriate based on changing market conditions. Synthetic fuel has not been produced by the Company’s subsidiaries and affiliates since its May 2006 announcement that it had idled all synthetic fuel production.
