Explanation of Responses:

1. These transactions were effected pursuant to a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan adopted by the reporting person on August 17, 2016.

2. Represents the weighted average price of the shares sold. The prices actually received ranged from $125.00 to $125.20 per share. The reporting person will provide to the issuer, any security holder of the issuer, or the Securities and Exchange Commission, upon request, information regarding the number of shares sold at each price within the range.

3. Represents shares acquired through ongoing participation in Cigna's 401(k) Plan.

4. This option was granted on February 26, 2014. The option vests in three equal annual installments on the first, second and third anniversaries of the grant date.

5. This option was granted on February 28, 2012. The option vested in three equal annual installments on the first, second, and third anniversaries of the grant date.
