Explanation of Responses:

1. On June 8, 2017, the common stock of DST Systems, Inc. split 2-for-1, resulting in the ownership of 6,244.5725 additional shares of phantom stock that becomes payable in common stock upon termination of service as a director. These securities were acquired pursuant to the Directors Deferred Fee Plan.

2. On June 9, 2017, dividend equivalents were received automatically pursuant to the DST Systems, Inc. Directors Deferred Fee Plan. Shares are accrued until departure from the DST Board at which time the shares are issued to the former director.
