Total depreciation expense was $5.6 million and $6.4 million for the six months ended June 30, 2015 and 2014 , respectively. At June 30, 2015 , assets recorded under capital leases of $3.2 million were included in the machinery and equipment balance and zero were included in the construction in progress balance. At December 31, 2014 , assets recorded under capital leases of $3.2 million were included in the machinery and equipment balance and $0.6 million were included in the construction in progress balance. Amortization of assets under capital leases was included in depreciation expense. Total amortization expense was $4.0 million and $3.2 million for the six months ended June 30, 2015 and 2014 , respectively. On June 19, 2015 the Company entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with a third party to market a biologic product that would replace its existing NEXoss Synthetic Bone Graft (See Note 4). The Company expensed $0.3 million as an impairment charge in cost of goods sold in the three and six months ended June 30, 2015 for the write-off of an intangible asset related to this product. Additionally, due to a revised marketing strategy for the Company's Epicage interbody fusion device, the Company evaluated the related intangible asset for impairment in June 2015. As a result of this impairment analysis the Company expensed $0.9 million as an impairment charge in cost of goods sold in the three and six months ended June 30, 2015 for the write-off of an intangible asset related to this product.
