Bowne & Co., Inc. and each person whose signature appears below hereby authorize both Philip E. Kucera and Scott L. Spitzer, each with full power to act alone, to file in either paper or electronic form any and all amendments to the Registration Statement on Form S-8 and, under the Securities Act of 1933 as amended, relating to the Bowne & Co., Inc. 1999 Incentive Compensation Plan and its various supplements and component agreements. Bowne & Co., Inc. and each such person hereby further appoint both Philip E. Kucera and Scott L.
