State of the Opioid Crisis & Our Response 8 • The opioid epidemic is one of the country’s biggest public health issues. • Recent data shows 105,000+ Americans died of a drug overdose during the 12-month period from August 2022 to July 2023 – of which eight in 10 deaths were opioid related.¹ • Approximately one life was lost every six minutes due to opioid overdose. ¹ • Leading cause of accidental death in the U.S. given the recent rise in synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl. • Demand for naloxone is expected to increase as the epidemic continues and federal/state programs continue to combat the crisis.
