On September 12, 2012, Cobalt International Energy, Inc. (the “Company”) announced that a malfunction of a critical rig system (the control system of the Dynamic Positioning System) on the Ocean Confidence drilling rig on location on Block 21 offshore Angola, which occurred in the last 24 hours, may delay the timing of the Cameia #2 lower reservoir production test and results previously planned for September. Currently, the rig system is being evaluated by Diamond Offshore Drilling and the Company will provide a further announcement with respect to the drilling rig and the timing of the production test when definitive information is known. There are no safety or environmental issues resulting from the malfunction of this system at this time and none are anticipated.
