Depreciation expense was $14.1 million and $11.1 million for the three months ended September 30, 2019 and 2018, respectively. Depreciation expense was $39.0 million and $32.7 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2019 and 2018, respectively. Amortization expense related to the Company’s intangible lease assets was $3.1 million and $0.1 million for the three months ended September 30, 2019 and 2018. Amortization expense related to the Company’s intangible lease assets was $6.7 million and $0.9 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2019 and 2018, respectively. Amortization expense related to the Company’s intangible lease assets for all acquisitions completed through September 30, 2019 is expected to be $8.1 million for the remainder of the year ended December 31, 2019. Due to the six-month useful life attributable to intangible lease assets, the value of intangible lease assets on any acquisition prior to March 31, 2019 has been fully amortized and the assets and related accumulated amortization have been written off as of September 30, 2019. Acquisitions The Company acquired eight properties during the nine months ended September 30, 2019, as detailed in the table below (dollars in thousands). The Company acquired three properties for a combined purchase price of $131.0 million during the nine months ended September 30, 2018.
