1. The sales reported in the Form 4 were effected pursuant to a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan adopted by the reporting person on February 28, 2017.

2. The price reported in Column 4 is a weighted average price. These shares were sold in multiple transactions at prices ranging from $84.71 to $85.67, inclusive. The reporting person undertakes to provide to Spark Therapeutics, Inc., any security holder of Spark Therapeutics, Inc., or the staff of the Securities and Exchange Commission, upon request, full information regarding the number of shares sold at each separate price within the ranges set forth in footnote (2) to this Form 4.

3. The price reported in Column 4 is a weighted average price. These shares were sold in multiple transactions at prices ranging from $86.50 to $87.00, inclusive. The reporting person undertakes to provide to Spark Therapeutics, Inc., any security holder of Spark Therapeutics, Inc., or the staff of the Securities and Exchange Commission, upon request, full information regarding the number of shares sold at each separate price within the ranges set forth in footnote (3) to this Form 4.

4. This option was granted on July 2, 2014 and vests over four years, with 25% of the shares underlying the option vesting on May 24, 2015, and the remainder vesting quarterly thereafter.
