Explanation of Responses:

1. The Reporting Person is a managing director of Goldman Sachs & Co. LLC ("Goldman Sachs"). Goldman Sachs is a direct subsidiary of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. ("GS Group"). Goldman Sachs is the investment manager of each of StoneBridge 2017, L.P. ("StoneBridge 2017"), StoneBridge 2017 Offshore, L.P. ("StoneBridge 2017 Offshore"), VWR Partners, L.P. ("VWR"), StoneBridge 2018, L.P. ("StoneBridge 2018") and StoneBridge 2018 Offshore, L.P. ("StoneBridge 2018 Offshore" and, together with StoneBridge 2017, StoneBridge 2017 Offshore, VWR and StoneBridge 2018, the "GS Funds"). (continued in footnote 2)

2. Bridge Street Opportunity Advisors, L.L.C. ("Bridge Street") is the sole general partner of each of the GS Funds, a direct wholly-owned subsidiary of GS Fund Holdings, L.L.C. ("GS Fund Holdings") and an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of GS Group. Goldman Sachs is the manager of Bridge Street. Effective April 14, 2021, the Reporting Person ceased to be a member of the board of directors of Avantor, Inc. (the "Issuer").

3. Represents an open market purchase by Goldman Sachs (the "Purchase"). Does not reflect a purchase by the Reporting Person.

4. After giving effect to the Purchase on July 12, 2021, Goldman Sachs and GS Group may be deemed to beneficially own indirectly 557,656.30 shares of the Issuer's common stock (the "Common Stock") by reason of the direct beneficial ownership of such shares as follows: (i) GS Fund Holdings owns directly 97,602 shares of Common Stock, (ii) StoneBridge 2017 owns directly 338 shares of Common Stock, (iii) StoneBridge 2017 Offshore owns directly 151 shares of Common Stock, (iv) VWR owns directly 547 shares of Common Stock, (v) StoneBridge 2018 owns directly 457 shares of Common Stock and (vi) StoneBridge 2018 Offshore owns directly 148 shares of Common Stock.

5. The Reporting Person disclaims beneficial ownership of the securities reported herein except to the extent of the Reporting Person's pecuniary interest therein, if any, and this report shall not be deemed an admission that the Reporting Person is the beneficial owner of, or has any pecuniary interest in, such securities for purposes of Section 16 of the Exchange Act of 1934, or for any other purpose.
