SEGMENT INFORMATION | SEGMENT INFORMATION The overall concept that the Company employs in determining its operating segments is to present the financial information in a manner consistent with the chief operating decision maker's view of the businesses. In addition, we consider how the businesses are organized as to segment management and the focus of the businesses with regards to the types of services or products offered or the target market. Operating segments are combined for reporting purposes if they meet certain aggregation criteria, which principally relate to the similarity of their economic characteristics, which is the case for the Desktop and Ask Media Group operating segments in the Search reportable segment, or, in the case of the Emerging & Other reportable segment, do not meet the quantitative thresholds that require presentation as separate reportable segments. The determination of operating segments for Meredith is not yet complete; therefore, it is possible that a lower level of segment reporting may be required for Meredith.
