3 Home Price Growth/Decline Rates in the U.S. Fannie Mae Home Price Index Growth rates are from period-end to period-end. After declining by an estimated 23.8% from their peak in the third quarter of 2006 to the first quarter of 2012, based on our home price index, we estimate that home prices on a national basis increased by 4.7% in 2012 overall, and by 0.5% in the fourth quarter of 2012.
