ANNOUNCES INCREASE IN THE AGGREGATE OFFERING AMOUNT OF ITS EQUITY
DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM
Joplin, MO, October 22, 2009 – (NYSE:EDE) – The Empire District Electric Company (“Empire”) announced today that it has increased the aggregate offering amount from $60,000,000 to $120,000,000 of the shares of its common stock, par value $1.00 per share, in connection with its previously announced equity distribution program.
Funds raised from this program will continue to be used to repay short-term debt and for general corporate purposes, including to fund our current construction program.
