Item 5.02. Departure of Directors or Principal Officers; Election of Directors; Appointment of Principal Officers.
On November 19, 2004, Massey Energy Company (the “Registrant”) announced it had promoted David W. Owings, to the position of Controller and principal accounting officer effective as of November 20, 2004. Mr. Owings, 31, joined the Registrant in September 2001 as Manager of Financial Reporting. Since October 1998 and prior to joining the Registrant, he worked in the Assurance & Advisory Business Services group for the public accounting firm Ernst & Young LLP as Senior Auditor and Manager. Mr. Owings received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, in South Bend, Indiana and is a Certified Public Accountant.
