FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
American Science and Engineering, Inc. Receives $2.9 Million Order
from Middle Eastern Client for Multiple Z® Backscatter Van™ X-ray Systems
BILLERICA, Mass. – May 9, 2005 – American Science and Engineering, Inc. (NASDAQ: ASEI) (AS&E®), a leader in X-ray detection technology, announced today the receipt of a $2.9 million order for multiple Z® Backscatter Van™ (ZBV) X-ray screening systems from a Middle Eastern client. The order also includes installation, operator training, and a one-year parts and labor warranty.
“Security officials worldwide continue to choose Z Backscatter technology for counterterrorism applications,” said Anthony Fabiano, President and CEO. “Globally, AS&E’s marketing and sales team is raising awareness for Z Backscatter technology to combat IEDs and other explosive threats. Operationally, our focus continues to be on timely order execution and customer satisfaction. Customers, nationally and internationally, are responding very favorably to AS&E’s products and their performance. The ZBV offers customers the ultimate flexibility and maneuverability to operate in varied environments, while still maintaining unparalleled detection capability—an excellent value proposition.”
A breakthrough in X-ray detection technology, AS&E’s Z Backscatter Van is a low-cost, highly mobile screening system built into a commercially available delivery van. The ZBV allows for immediate deployment in response to security threats, and its high throughput capability facilitates rapid inspections. The system’s unique “drive-by” capability allows one or two operators to conduct X-ray imaging while the ZBV drives past suspect vehicles and objects. For personnel safety in dangerous environments, a remote console is available for operating the system in stationary mode from a distance of up to 500 meters. The ZBV is also capable of identifying low levels of radioactivity from both gamma rays and neutrons with optional Radioactive Threat Detection (RTD) technology.
