FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
American Science and Engineering, Inc. Receives Follow-On $15.7 Million Order from the
U.S. Government under ID/IQ Contract
Second Delivery is for 20 Z Backscatter Vans
BILLERICA, Mass. – November 17, 2005 – American Science and Engineering, Inc. (NASDAQ: ASEI) (AS&E®), a leader in X-ray detection technology, announced today a follow-on order from an ID/IQ Contract opened in August by the U.S. Government for multiple Z® Backscatter Vans™ (ZBV). The second delivery is for twenty ZBVs totaling $15.7 million. The order includes options, operator training, spare parts and warranty.
“This follow-on order confirms the Z Backscatter Van’s value to the U.S. Government and the recognition of its unparalleled detection capabilities,” said Anthony Fabiano, President and CEO. “The ZBVs will be supporting U.S. officials in critical applications to secure borders and support anti-terrorism efforts to uncover vehicle-borne explosives and other high-risk material. Reports from field performance are outstanding — the ZBV is helping to find car and truck bombs providing vital force protection equipment for our troops. We are honored to work closely with the U.S. Government to combat these threats.”
A breakthrough in X-ray detection technology, AS&E’s Z Backscatter Van is a low-cost, highly mobile screening system built into a commercially available delivery van. The ZBV allows for immediate deployment in response to security threats, and its high throughput capability facilitates rapid inspections. The system’s unique “drive-by” capability allows one or two operators to conduct X-ray imaging while the ZBV drives past suspect vehicles and objects.
