Item 1.04 Mine Safety - Reporting of Shutdowns and Patterns of Violations.
On September 16, 2020, Knife River Corporation - Mountain West, an indirect subsidiary of MDU Resources Group, Inc., received an imminent danger order issued by the Mine Safety and Health Administration under section 107(a) of the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977. The imminent danger order was issued at the Amyx pit in Ada County, Idaho upon observation of extremely dusty conditions resulting from the company’s rock crusher and adjacent haul road. The water spray dust suppression system on the rock crusher was broken and the company’s water trucks to suppress dust on the haul road were assigned to an alternate location. The company repaired the water spray dust suppression system on the rock crusher and watered the road, thereby terminating the order.
