NORDSTROM REPORTS SEPTEMBER SALES
SEATTLE, Wash. (October 8, 2009)– Nordstrom, Inc. (NYSE: JWN) today reported a 2.4 percent decrease in same-store sales for the five-week period ended October 3, 2009 compared with the five-week period ended October 4, 2008. Preliminary total retail sales were $720 million for September 2009, an increase of 0.3 percent compared with total retail sales of $718 million for the same period in fiscal 2008.
Quarter-to-date same-store sales decreased 4.6 percent compared with the same period in fiscal 2008. Preliminary quarter-to-date total retail sales of $1.26 billion decreased 1.1 percent compared with total retail sales of $1.28 billion for the same period in fiscal 2008.
Year-to-date same-store sales decreased 9.8 percent compared with the same period in fiscal 2008. Preliminary year-to-date total retail sales of $5.11 billion decreased 6.1 percent compared with total retail sales of $5.44 billion for the same period in fiscal 2008.

Expansion Update
On September 25, 2009 Nordstrom opened a full-line store at Kenwood Towne Centre in Cincinnati, Ohio. Also in September, Nordstrom opened two Nordstrom Rack stores at Arbor Lakes in Maple Grove, Minnesota and Beverly Connection in Los Angeles, California.
Today, Nordstrom will open a Nordstrom Rack store at Hastings Village in Pasadena, California. Additionally, in October, Nordstrom plans to open two Nordstrom Rack stores at Westfield Oakridge in San Jose, California and Gateway Center in Austin, Texas.
