NEWS RELEASE
For Immediate Release
Channel Partners Place $1.77 million in Satellite Systems Orders on Norsat
Company Estimates Backlog of $1.43 million for Satellite Systems on Strength of Channel Program
(Vancouver, Canada) December 28th, 2006, 06:00 EST –Norsat International Inc. (TSX – NII.TO; OTC BB – NSATF.OB), a leading provider of intelligent satellite solutions, estimates that its channel program has generated $1.77 million in new orders for its satellite systems, in the fourth quarter of 2006. While approximately 44% of these orders are expected to be shipped in the fourth quarter, the balance of $1 million will contribute to the company’s estimated $1.43 million backlog for satellite systems. The figures are the first indications of the effectiveness of the company’s channel program, and are, as yet, unaudited.
Sales in the satellite systems business unit have historically involved direct sales to end-users, while sales generated by the microwave business unit are primarily through channel partners. Earlier this year, the company launched a concerted effort to recruit and nurture channel partners to promote the sale of its satellite systems and services.
“Channel partner relationships are a critical element of our ‘smart expansion’ strategy. We are naturally delighted with the response our channel program is garnering, and expect that channel partners will represent a growing proportion of sales in 2007,” said Dr. Amiee Chan, President and CEO, Norsat International Inc.
