Highlands Bankshares, Inc. (OTCBB: HBSI) announces its results of operations for the first quarter of 2009.
Highlands Bankshares’ operations for the first quarter of 2009 produced net income of $963,000, or 72 cents per share of common stock outstanding (EPS). This compares to income of $1,238,000 and EPS of $.86 for the first quarter of 2008. Return on Average Assets (ROAA) for the quarter was 1.00% and Return on Average Equity (ROAE) was 9.69%. This compares to ROAA of 1.30% and ROAE of 12.20% for the same quarter a year ago.
Assets increased 4.00% from December 31, 2008 to March 31, 2009 and at the end of the quarter totaled $393,442,000. Shareholders’ Equity at March 31, 2009 was $40,042,000.
During the quarter Highlands paid dividends to its shareholders of 29 cents per share.
Highlands Bankshares Inc. operates eleven banking locations in West Virginia and Virginia through its two wholly owned subsidiary banks, The Grant County Bank and Capon Valley Bank, and offers insurance services through its wholly owned subsidiary HBI Life Insurance Company.
