ALLEGHANY ANNOUNCES PRICING OF
$300 MILLION OF 5.625% SENIOR NOTES DUE 2020
New York, NY, September 15, 2010 — Alleghany Corporation (“Alleghany”) (NYSE-Y) today announced that it has set the price for the public offering of $300 million of its 5.625% Senior Notes due September 15, 2020 (the “Senior Notes”). Alleghany currently intends to use the net proceeds from the sale of the Senior Notes for general corporate purposes, including, but not limited to, acquisitions, additions to working capital, capital expenditures, investments, contributions of capital to its subsidiaries, repayment of debt, and repurchases and redemptions of its securities.
U.S. Bancorp Investments, Inc., J.P. Morgan Securities LLC and Wells Fargo Securities, LLC are acting as joint book-running managers for the Senior Notes offering.
