Item 8.01 Other Events.
On December 17, 2013, the North Carolina Utilities Commission ("NCUC") approved in its entirety the settlement among Piedmont Natural Gas Company, Inc. (the "Company"), the Public Staff of the NCUC and the Carolina Utility Customers Association, Inc. of the Company's general rate application filed with the NCUC in May 2013. The material terms of the settlement have been previously disclosed by the Company in its Form 8-K filed October 4, 2013. New rates will go into affect in North Carolina on January 1, 2014.
