Subject: Sigma Designs to be Acquired by Silicon Labs
As you know, we have been working over the past few months to find strategic alternatives for the company to optimize the future of our technologies and employees. Today, we announced a definitive agreement by which Sigma and its Z-Wave technology is to be acquired by Silicon Labs. This is a good fit for our Z-Wave business.
Silicon Labs is one of the most respected companies in our industry. They are a leading provider of silicon, software and solutions for a smarter, more connected world with extensive experience in mesh technologies. For many years, Silicon Labs has been actively driving the Internet of Things, and recognizes the large following that Sigma Designs has among its developers and end customers in the smart home space. They have a strong channel to scale and expand the IoT footprint in the market, and the financial stability and track record for the long-term.
I’m proud of our team and the business we’ve built over the 35 years since Sigma’s inception. Together we have created world class technologies that power some of leading consumer products in smart televisions, set-top boxes, media connectivity modems and IoT systems.
As stated in the press release, we are actively exploring options regarding our other business units. It’s important to us that these valuable teams and technologies succeed moving forward.
The Silicon Labs transaction is expected to close during the first calendar quarter of 2018.
I would personally like to thank you all for your contributions and loyalty. It has been my pleasure to serve as your CEO and I am confident that the future holds even greater opportunities for us all.
Sincerely,
Thinh Tran
