Significant Accounting Policies [Text Block]	1. Interim Financial Statements Business - Kimco Realty Corporation and subsidiaries (the "Company"), affiliates and related real estate joint ventures are engaged principally in the ownership, management, development and operation of open-air shopping centers, which are anchored generally by discount department stores, grocery stores or drugstores. Additionally, the Company provides complementary services that capitalize on the Company ’s established retail real estate expertise. The Company elected status as a Real Estate Investment Trust (a “REIT”) for federal income tax purposes beginning in its taxable year ended December 31, 1991 As a REIT, with respect to each taxable year, the Company must distribute at least 90 not not 100 may not not not Principles of Consolidation - The accompanying Condensed Consolidated Financial Statements include the accounts of the Company. The joint venture acquired land parcels in Philadelphia, PA to be held for development for a gross purchase price of $10.0 million. [1]	During 2015, the Company began selling properties within its Canadian portfolio and has continued to liquidate its investments over the last two years. During the three months ended September 30, 2017, the Company was deemed to have substantially liquidated its investment in Canada, triggered primarily by the receipt of various tax refunds and as a result, recognized a net cumulative foreign currency translation gain.
