Item 2.01 Completion of Acquisition or Disposition of Assets.
On September 25, 2009, The Beard Company (the “Company”) purchased a 2.51774% equity interest in Geohedral LLC, a private company in which the Company had previously held a 23.16375% equity interest, from Dr. P. Jan Cannon (“Cannon”) for a cash consideration of $441,109. This was the same amount that Cannon paid for such interest on that date to Geohedral in order to meet a Geohedral cash call. On September 21, 2009, Geohedral reported a significant gold discovery on its mining claims in southeastern Alaska. The Company utilized a portion of its working capital to provide the funds for the purchase.

On October 1, 2009, the Company issued a news release reporting that it has increased its interest in Geohedral LLC to 25.68%. A copy of the news release made in connection with the purchase is attached hereto as Exhibit 99.1.
