[internal announcement from Dick Boer to Ahold Leadership Community of January 21, 2016]
To: Ahold Leadership Community
Dear colleagues,
I would like to draw your attention to the trading statement we published this morning, which provides a snapshot of our performance for both Q4 and full-year 2015:
| • | | Q4 net sales (excluding gas sales and adjusted for an extra week in 2015) rose 4.3% to EUR 9.8 billion; |
| • | | We added market share in both the Netherlands and the U.S.; |
| • | | Identical sales grew in both countries compared to Q4 a year earlier – and in the Czech Republic, our Albert brand improved the sales performance of the large former Spar stores; and |
| • | | Total net consumer online sales – which includes Peapod, ah.nl and bol.com – rose more than 29% (adjusted for the additional sales week in 2015). |
These solid results show a clear focus on continuing to run our businesses well and delivering on Simplicity. I want to thank each of you – and your teams – for all of the great work that made this possible. Now, as we move closer to the intended merger with Delhaize Group – which we expect to complete in mid-2016 – it will be as important as ever to keep our eye on the ball and our focus on our customers.
I hope you will share my thanks as well as information about our performance with your teams. More details about the trading statement are available on ahold.com, and our full Q4 and FY 2015 results will be available on March 3.
Winning together in 2016
Today, I also want to look forward to 2016, which promises to be an extraordinarily exciting year. As we move ahead, it is important to ensure that our 2016 goals are fully aligned for each of us.
I recently sat down with Abbe Luersman, Chief Human Resources Officer, to discuss our Ahold goals for the coming year and the important role each of us plays in reaching them successfully. I hope you will take three minutes to watch this video of our discussion [click here] and carry back some of these thoughts to share with the members of your team. We will also publish this video on our global internal communications channels today.
You’ve done an inspiring job in 2015, and I am excited to work with you as we continue to move our businesses forward.
Best regards,
Dick Boer
CEO Ahold
