Utility
Movement capability for buttonless touchpads and forcepads
23 Feb 21
A system and method for enabling an entire touchpad surface to mechanically move if sufficient force is used to press on the touchpad to perform a mouse click function, such as a right click or a left click, when the touchpad is mechanically buttonless, such as a forcepad, in order to provide haptic feedback on a touchpad that otherwise has none.

Utility
Keyboard capacitive backup
30 Nov 20
A computing device may include a keyboard, a switch in mechanical communication with an underside of a key arranged in the keyboard, a processor, a transmit line electrically connected to the processor, a sense line electrically connected to the processor, and the transmit line and the sense line are selectively connectable through the switch when the key is depressed, memory in communication with the processor, and programmed instructions that, when executed, cause the processor to measure at least one change in capacitance from the sense line, identify the at least one change as a capacitive characteristic indicative that the key is depressed, identify that logic configured to indicate that the key is depressed from measurements associated with a temporary connection made between the transmit line and the sense line failed to identify the key is depressed, and execute a command to indicate that the key is depressed.

Utility
Touch keyboard
23 Nov 20
A system and method that combines skimmer detection technology with a waterproof and sealed touch sensor keypad that may be used outdoors in wet environments, and is capable of being operated by a user wearing gloves.

Utility
Pressure sensing on a touch sensor using capacitance
31 Aug 20
A system and method for measuring pressure by using two substrates that are separated by a distance, each substrate having at least one electrode, and wherein touch sensor capacitance circuitry coupled to electrodes on each of the substrates and transmitting a drive signal may be used to detect a bending or deflection of at least one of the substrates by measuring a change in distance between the electrodes on the different substrates when pressure is applied to one of the substrates, and wherein a compressible substrate may be disposed between the two substrates.

Utility
Capacitive sensor enabling row and column node alignment when disposed on a three-dimensional object
20 Jul 20
A system and method for manufacturing a planar capacitive touch sensor that can be folded over a three-dimensional object that does not require substantial modification to function, wherein columns and rows of capacitive measurement nodes follow substantially linear designs, and wherein the algorithms used for detection and tracking objects are substantially the same as for a planar touch sensor design.

Utility
Dynamic suspension and passive haptic feedback for touch sensors
20 Jul 20
Systems and methods for providing a touch sensor include a dynamic suspension system to enable the touch sensor to emulate the tactile sensation that a user feels when using pushbutton switches, wherein a touch sensor is combined with at least one snap dome and a post inside the snap dome to keep the touch sensor rigid until the touch sensor is allowed to be displaced when a force is applied, and then the post is retracted or released to enable movement of the touch sensor and the snap dome are disclosed.

Utility
Self-capacitence sensor and sensor array sensitivity calibration method using secondary mutual capacitence measurements
24 Feb 20
Systems and methods are disclosed for using a combination of mutual and self-capacitance sensors to determine when an object, such as a finger, has made contact with a controller, regardless of the size of the object.
