A ventilation screed comprising: an attachment flange having a top portion and a bottom portion; a drip edge protruding from the attachment flange and a return leg that protrudes back from the drip edge, wherein the drip edge is angled downward in a first direction and the return leg is angled downward in a second direction; a drainage cavity protrusion protruding from the attachment flange above the drip edge, wherein the drainage cavity protrusion has an L-shaped drainage trough portion having at least one drainage opening in a bottom portion and a substantially vertical portion with a top end and a bottom end in communication with the bottom portion, an upper ground portion in communication with the top end of the substantially vertical portion of the L-shaped drainage trough portion extending outward from the substantially vertical portion and a drainage cavity shroud extending substantially downward from the upper ground portion.

A ventilation screed comprising: a perforated attachment flange portion that is substantially vertical and has a top end and a bottom end and at least one perforation between the top end and the bottom end; a three sided cavity portion having a first side that is substantially horizontal having a left portion and a right portion, a second side that is substantially vertical having a top portion and a bottom portion and the top portion is in communication with the left portion of the first side at a substantially 90 degree angle to the first side and a third side that is between the bottom portion of the second side and the top end of the perforated attachment flange portion at an angle that slopes downwardly, wherein the third side has at least one ventilation opening; and a ventilation spacer along an underside of the three sided cavity portion.

A method of applying a veneer exterior wall system, the method having the steps of attaching a weep screed substantially horizontally on a wall at a location where a veneer has a termination edge; attaching a weather barrier layer over an outward side of the wall, the weather barrier extending downward and terminating at the upper flange; attaching a drainage mat over on an outward side of the weather barrier, the drainage mat extending downward and terminating at the upper flange, wherein the apertures are directly below at least a portion of the drainage mat; attaching a mesh over on an outward side of the drainage mat, the mesh extending downward and terminating at the upper flange; and applying at least one coat of plaster over the mesh, the coat of plaster extending downward and terminating at the upper flange.
