I am writing to share the exciting news (linked here) that H. Lundbeck A/S (Lundbeck) and Longboard Pharmaceuticals (Longboard) have entered into an agreement for Lundbeck to acquire Longboard. Together, we share a strong vision to advance treatments for neurological conditions and to transform the lives of patients and their families.
Longboard provides Lundbeck with a unique opportunity to significantly enhance its neuroscience pipeline and address a critical unmet need for patients suffering from rare and severe epilepsies; including those with Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathies (DEEs). Through this acquisition, Lundbeck will add bexicaserin, an oral, centrally acting 5-hydroxytryptamine 2C (5-HT2C) receptor superagonist to its clinical pipeline.
Bexicaserin was granted Breakthrough Therapy designation by U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of seizures associates with DEEs. Bexicaserin is currently being evaluated in a global Phase III clinical program (the DEEp Program). We believe bexicaserin has the potential to change the standard of care in DEEs, and offer access to a broad range of patients.
We anticipate the transaction will close in Q4 2024, subject to the fulfillment of customary closing conditions. Until closing, both organizations will continue to operate independently. We remain as focused as ever on our responsibilities so that we can continue making a difference in the lives of patients and their families.
