Torque Distribution Control to Improve Steering Performance In Through-the-road Electrified Vehicles
25 Nov 20
Torque distribution control systems and methods for through-the-road electrified vehicles having distinct first and second torque generating systems for distinct first and second axles, respectively, utilize existing vehicle sensors to (i) obtain measured wheel rotational speeds and a measured steering wheel angle, (ii) estimate virtual yaw rates of the first and second axles using these measured values and other known vehicle parameters, (ii) predict whether oversteer or understeer of the vehicle is likely to occur based on the estimated first and second axle virtual yaw rates, and (iv) when oversteer or understeer of the vehicle is predicted to occur, adjust a torque distribution between the first and second torque generating systems to prevent the oversteer or understeer from occurring and to keep the vehicle on a constant turn path.

Brake-dependent clutch holding pressure while transmission is in neutral
9 Nov 20
Systems and methods for performing a garage shift of an automatic transmission of a vehicle comprise maintaining a clutch at a first holding pressure while the transmission is in a neutral gear and a brake input signal satisfies a threshold and maintaining the clutch at a lower second holding pressure while the transmission is in the neutral gear and the brake input signal satisfies the threshold to mitigate or eliminate causing drive torque to be transferred from a torque generating system of the vehicle to its driveline via the transmission.

Using a long-term recurrent convolutional network to plan a sequence of lateral controls in autonomous driving
9 Nov 20
Systems and methods for planning and executing a sequence of lateral controls for a vehicle comprise determining a set of parameters comprising road lane lines, a pose of the vehicle, a movement state of the vehicle, and actions by a driver of the vehicle and, while operating the vehicle in an autonomous driving mode, obtaining a long-term recurrent convolutional network (LRCN) model that has been trained with training data captured during controlled test driving by a human driver, using the LRCN model and the set of parameters as inputs, determining a sequence of a plurality of desired steering wheel angles for the vehicle, and when the sequence of the plurality of desired steering wheel angles is verified via comparison to one or more mathematical models, controlling steering of the vehicle according to the sequence of a plurality of desired steering wheel angles.

Utility
Spark ignited engine load extension with low pressure exhaust gas recirculation and delta pressure valve
2 Nov 20
Techniques for controlling a forced-induction engine having a low pressure exhaust gas recirculation (LPEGR) system comprise determining a desired differential pressure (dP) at an inlet of a boost device based on an engine mass air flow (MAF) and a speed of the engine, wherein the engine further comprises a dP valve disposed upstream from an EGR port and a throttle valve disposed downstream from the boost device, determining a desired EGR mass fraction based on at least the engine MAF and the engine speed, determining a maximum throttle inlet pressure (TIP) based on the engine speed, the desired EGR mass fraction, and a barometric pressure, and performing coordinated control of the dP valve and the throttle valve based on the desired dP and the maximum TIP, respectively, thereby extending EGR operability to additional engine speed/load regions and increasing engine efficiency.

Low speed pre-ignition knock detection, mitigation, and driver notification
2 Nov 20
A low speed pre-ignition detection, mitigation, and driver notification system and method utilize a controller to analyze a knock signal from a knock sensor to detect LSPI knock of the engine and in response to detecting the LSPI knock, enrich a fuel/air ratio of the engine and limit a torque output of the engine to a level that is less than a maximum torque output of the engine, and when enriching the fuel/air ratio of the engine and limiting the torque output of the engine does not mitigate the LSPI knock, output at least one message for a driver of the vehicle instructing the driver to take remedial action to mitigate the LSPI knock.
